Abstract:

We are... So, to reframe the inquiry: who are we on a metaphysical level? Which aspects of ourselves are the most universally representative of who we are? How do we fare in the face of the passage of time? For decades, philosophers have debated the concept of diachronic personal identity, which focuses on the question of what keeps us alive. An intricate debate has developed between those who hold the body view (animalism) and those who hold the psychological view (memory) on the question of who we are. The two groups will eventually become so firmly set in their views that they will be unable to compromise. Hylomorphic animalism, or the view that humans are rational animals, living bodies made of prime matter and a rational soul, is an alternative answer to this divisive question that I propose in this study, following in the footsteps of Aristotle and Aquinas. We only survive if matter and rational souls do.

Abstract:

HUMAN IDENTIFICATION BASED ON BIO-SIGNALS IS AN EMERGING FIELD OF RESEARCH, AND AMONG THESE BIO-SIGNALS, EYE MOVEMENT SIGNALS SHOWS A PROMISING POTENTIAL AND EXHIBITS GREAT POSSIBILITIES OF IMPROVEMENTS. STUDIES SHOW THAT EYE MOVEMENT SIGNALS CAN BE NOT ONLY EMPLOYED FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES IN MEDICINE, BUT ALSO USED IN HUMAN IDENTIFICATION SINCE THEY HAVE UNIQUE FEATURES AMONG INDIVIDUALS. UTILIZING BIO-SIGNALS PROVIDES A NOVEL APPROACH TOWARDS HUMAN IDENTIFICATION THAT CONTAINS ALL THE CRUCIAL ATTRIBUTES OF PREVIOUS TRADITIONAL IDENTIFICATION. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT REASON FOR DEPLOYMENT OF BIO-SIGNALS, ESPECIALLY EYE MOVEMENT SIGNAL, IN HUMAN IDENTIFICATION IS THEIR RESISTANCE TO SPOOFING, WHILE OTHER CONVENTIONAL BIOMETRICS LIKE IRIS CAN BE EASILY FORGED AND REPRODUCED. THIS ARTICLE REVIEWS EXAMPLES OF RESEARCHES THAT HAVE APPLIED EYE MOVEMENT SIGNALS IN HUMAN IDENTIFICATION. ACCORDING TO MEASUREMENT METHOD, THESE RESEARCHES CAN BE DIVIDED INTO TWO GROUPS: ELECTROOCULOGRAPHICAL (EOG) AND VIDEOOCULOGRAPHICAL (VOG). THE FORMER USES SKIN ELECTRODES TO RECORD EYE SIGNALS WHEREAS THE LATTER OBTAINS EYE MOVEMENTS USING TWO SMALL VIDEO CAMERAS.

Abstract:

The proper confrontation with new spiritual groups in the contemporary society is based on the scientific knowledge of this fact and the recognition of the path of their possible developments. Influenced by the growing process of globalization, emerging religious developments have common roots that help to identify the path of future developments. In this article, an attempt has been made to identify the roots of contemporary developments and speculate about their future path by examining the intellectual movements that have had decisive effects on new spiritual groups. For this purpose, the method of analysis and logical inference from some of the most important social researches is used (meta-analysis). Spiritual therapy, emphasizing inner talents and turning attention from an external source for salvation to the human self has been the most important legacies of pioneer movements on the growth of new spiritual groups.

Abstract:

Tabriz Fault is one of the major faults of Iran that is situated in the northwest of Iran and central part of the Iranian Azerbaijan. The fault has a well-known paleoseismological history, and being situated adjacent to the Tabriz city with two millions of inhabitants makes it a big seismic hazard. In this research, a study of instrumental seismic data, remote sensing and field observations along the Tabriz Fault Zone from north of Miyaneh to the west of Marand cities helped us to define three main segments along the fault. Fault Movement Potential (FMP) has a close relationship with tectonic stress in and around a given fault zone. Therefore, the stress state was analyzed using direct inversion method to estimate potential movement of each segment of the Tabriz Fault. Results showed that the middle and southern segments of the Tabriz Fault have a FMP of 0.67-0.73, implying their high potential of reactivation and generating large and destructive earthquakes, assupported by the richseismic history of these segments. Therefore the results of this research estimate a 70% movement probability for the North Tabriz Fault. In contrast, the northern segment of the Tabriz Fault (western part of the fault close to the Marand city) shows a FMF of 0.3-0.37, indicatingits lower potential of reactivation compared to the middle and southern segments. This is also in agreement with the poor seismic history of the northern segment.

Abstract:

Background: Stress is a migraine trigger. Anxiety sensitivity as a mediator between stress and disease is one of the factors affecting the symptoms of migraine. Purpose of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) on anxiety sensitivity in patients with migraine. Methods: In this semi experimental study, 36 patients with migraine were randomly divided into two groups: experimental and control. Patients of experimental group received EMDR therapy, 3 sessions of 90 minutes within three weeks. Control group did not receive any medical or psychological intervention. Participants in both groups were evaluated with Anxiety Sensitivity Inventory- Revised (ASI-R) during pre-test, post-test and one-month follow-up.Findings: The analysis of variance with repeated measures showed that eye movement desensitization and reprocessing reduces anxiety sensitivity (P<0.05) in patients. Conclusion: The results suggest that EMDR can be considered as one of the therapies for migraine headaches.

Abstract:

Introduction: Seismicity is closely related to active Quaternary faults. As a new parameter, FMP is defined to quantify earthquake risk along active faults. The landforms in Tehran quadrangle are mainly controlled by two sets of Quaternary faults, striking northwest-southeast and east-west. The questions are: what are the activity levels of these faults? And will these faults cause destructive earthquakes?Aim: The present study evaluated the movement potential of the major Quaternary faults in Tehran Quadrangle.Materials and Methods: A new method is used to evaluate fault activity by considering the mechanical relationships between fault geometry and regional tectonic stress field. This method has been used to evaluate the fault movement potentials of all the major Quaternary faults in Tehran quadrangle.Result: The fault movement potential of the northwest striking fault set ranges from low to high, suggesting that some fault sets have the sufficient potential for generating destructive earthquakes, except the Telo-e-paeen fault, Kuh-e-Sorkh fault and Bayejan fault. The fault movement potential of the east-west striking fault set like North of Tehran fault is medium, suggesting that this fault set has not the sufficient potential for generating destructive earthquakes. Conclusions: According to this research, the contemporary movements potential along fault zones of various orientations are different under the action of present-day regional north – northeast compressive stress field in studied region. The Mosha fault zone, Niavaran fault, Pishva fault zone, Nava fault, EmamZadeh Davood fault and Pourkan-Vardij fault have high FMP (0.9 or 90%) and the Kuh-e-Sorkh fault zone has very low FMP (0.0 – 0.5).

Abstract:

Qom region is one the significant area insight of geological features in Central Iran. Several researches have studied about the Cenozoic strata in terms of sedimentology, Stratigraphy and paleontology but, few structural detail data are available from this area. The most important exposure of the rock unites at the west of the Qom city is related to the Eocene volcanics, Lower Red, Qom and Upper Red Formations. Major structures at this area are Kamar Kuh and Mil anticlines, Yazdan syncline, Dochah and Sefid Kuh faults. Dochah Fault with E-W trending and ~70° dipping to the northward placed at the northwest termination of Qom-Zefreh Fault as a recent sinistral strike slip fault. This fault with ~15 km length separate Mil anticline from Yazdan syncline and eliminates the southern limb of Dochah overturned anticline. In this study, we focused on the Dochah Fault damaged zone in order to paleostress analysis using geometric and kinematic characteristics of fault slip data, which is achieved from the deformed Qom and Upper Red Formations. For this purpose, 100 fault slip data with precise and accurate geometric and kinematic characteristics have been measured in the field and analyzed with software Dasiy and Rotax methods. In order to determine the sense of shearing of the faults, the criteria of Petit (1987) and Doblas (1998) have been used. While the trend of the major structures is east-west but, most of slip data is related the transverse oblique slip faults, because the Dochah Fault passes through the soft materials of Lower Red Formation and consequently it is not possible or too hard to find the slicken line. Meanwhile, our results indicate the magnitudes of the axes of the maximum and minimum principal stress (σ1, σ3) as 030/05 and 285/05, Geometric and kinetic structural analysis related to the dochah fault and according to the spatial arrangement of the main stress axes indicate the readiness of the left-hand section on the right-hand section, especially in the western parts of the region (Caspian) attributed. oblate shape of field stress ellipsoid shape (R~0. 7). Based on the field stress ellipsoid shape and the rotation of the fault data regarding the Anderson's theory for the compressive stress regime, the stress transition trajectory map has been prepared. The arrangement of maximum stress trajectories is consistent with the general stress regime in the Iranian crust and is consistent with the activity of the Dochah Fault. Different criteria have been proposed to evaluate the activity of a fault in terms of seismicity. In experimental studies, there are various estimates for selection of the part of the fault that the movement rediscovers for each tectonic seismic zone. Here, the possibility of moving Dochah Fault has been estimated by the method of Lee et al. (1997). In this method, the angular relationship between maximum principal stress axis (σ1) and the pole of the fault plane considered in order to evaluate the Fault Movement Potential (FMP) based on equation “FMP=f (G, σ)”. The angle between maximum principal stress axis (σ1) and the pole of Dochah Fault (θ) is equal to ~40° and so FMP=0. 33 based on equation FMP= (θ-30°) ⁄ (30°) if θ∈[30°, 60°]. This value of FMP indicates the low seismic potential of Dochah fault for movement and creating earthquakes.
